Pain of all types can be addressed with acupuncture
Studies have shown that when acupuncture is administered, parts of the brain associated with pain management are ‘lit up,’ showing the positive effects of acupuncture on certain pain receptors. It has also been shown that acupuncture reduces site specific inflammation and brings blood flow to painful areas, aiding in faster recovery.
A full health history and an in depth look at the characteristics of the pain are performed to determine the best approach to treatment. At this point, we can advise whether acupuncture and/or bodywork are called for. We typically suggest 3-5 treatments in cases of acute pain (pain experienced for less than a month), while more chronic conditions can be managed with acupuncture in around 5-10 weekly treatments.
Acupuncture Treatments for Pain
Broken Bones
Acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine can help with the healing of broken bones, especially in cases where the bone is taking longer than expected to heal.
Electric Stimulation (E-Stim)
E-Stim is the application of small scale electric pulsing to trigger points or other inflamed tendino-muscular areas for pain management.
Facial Pain
Acupuncture can greatly help with pain reduction in many cases of facial pain, such as TMJ, trigeminal neuralgia and bruxism (teeth grinding).
Low Back Pain
Research shows acupuncture to be highly effective in treating low back pain. We are able to treat sciatica and piriformis syndrome with the aid of trigger point therapy and E-stim.
Mid Back Pain
Acupuncture treats neck and shoulder ailments: tension due to long hours sitting in front of a computer (aka ‘Tech Neck), stress holding patterns, poor posture, post operative pain, whiplash, frozen shoulder, or traumatic injury.
Migraines & Headaches
Acupuncture reduces the occurrence of migraines with potential lasting effects. People experience migraines in many different ways. We utilize a number of treatment methods including acupuncture, moxibustion, and herbal medicine to treat according to our specific diagnosis.

Tendonitis
Acupuncture can be beneficial for any type of tendonitis in the body. The pain associated with tennis elbow and golfers elbow can be greatly reduced with an acupuncture protocol.
Trigger Point Therapy
Active trigger points (or bundles of tight musculature and connective tissue) can cause pain at the site of constriction, or refer pain to other parts of the body. Once an active trigger point is released with an acupuncture needle, the patient may feel immediate relief.
