Gua (to scrape) Sha (stagnated blood) has been around for thousands of years. In Chinese villages, people would use a coin to scrape the backs of children or anyone who was developing a cold or chest congestion to release the pathogen. Like cupping, it can purge heat (inflammation) and stuck blood to the surface of the skin and out of the body. Gua sha is used in areas that are hard to cup, such as around the neck and bony prominences.
We recently started using and selling a gua sha tool for facial rejuvenation. Very gently scraping the facial skin reduces fine lines and wrinkles, bring blood and qi flow to the face, aides in lymphatic drainage, and chisels the chin line.
